More than 800 Alumni Celebrate Being Bishops
Mother Nature made sure Ohio Wesleyan alumni chilled out when they came to campus to relax and enjoy Alumni Weekend 2016.
The cool weather didn’t diminish the warm affection the 800-plus Bishops felt for their alma mater and OWU friends.
Highlights of Alumni Weekend 2016 included the 50th anniversary reunion of the Class of 1966, the “Celebrating Ohio Wesleyan” Recognition Program (Program PDF), and the State of the University address from President Rock Jones.
During his remarks, Jones congratulated the many alumni honored during the recognition program stating, “Nothing speaks more powerfully to the state of the University than the accomplishments of its alumni and the aspirations of its current students who seek to emulate those accomplishments in their own lives.”
The Alumni Association’s 2016 honorees were:
Honorary Alumni Citation
Conferred upon persons who have exhibited consistent interest in and support of OWU for a significant period of time.
- Edward H. “Jed” Burtt, Jr., professor emeritus of zoology, a 37-year OWU faculty member and Ohio’s 2011 Professor of the Year. Burtt, who died April 27, received the citation posthumously.
Alumni Awards
Presented in recognition of longstanding and dedicated service to Ohio Wesleyan and the campus community.
Young Alumni Awards
Presented to alumni who have graduated within the past 15 years in recognition of exceptional professional work, research, volunteerism, or service to the University.
Distinguished Achievement Citations
Considered the Alumni Association’s highest honor, these citations are awarded to alumni who demonstrate “professional accomplishment and outstanding service to humankind.”

- Randall Griffin ’66 (business management)
- Gregory L. Moore ’76 (journalism)
- James E. Oberg ’66 (space science)
