A Musical Feast
Main Street Delaware’s first Summer Concert Series will conclude September 16, when Ohio Wesleyan University alumnus Jasey Schnaars ’72 and Central Ohio music scene mainstay Steve Harper perform for a hungry crowd.
“Hungry” because Summer Concert Series events are held from noon to 2 p.m. Listeners are encouraged to buy lunch from one of downtown Delaware’s many restaurants and then enjoy their food outdoors while listening to the music. The free concerts are held on the plaza at William and Sandusky streets and extra chairs are set up for each event.
The Summer Concert Series is a collaborative effort between Main Street Delaware, a 501(c)(3) organization committed to preserving the historic downtown, and the City of Delaware Parks and Recreation Department. Previous performers, all of whom donate their time and talent, have included acoustic guitarist Lloyd Page, percussionist Charlie Sabo, and the musical group Inner Circle.
“If you’ve heard good things about downtown Delaware, but haven’t been downtown in a while, this is the perfect opportunity to come see, hear, and taste all of the good things Delaware has to offer,” says Frances Jo Hamilton, executive director of Main Street Delaware. “This year’s concert series has featured one performance a month since June. Next year, we hope to expand the free community celebration.”
Schnaars says he and Harper are excited about playing for a Delaware crowd. And as for what’s on the musical menu?
“Some Beatles, some Stones, some Jackson Browne … a little of this, a little of that,” says Schnaars, who performed with the popular Kansas City Jammers during his time at OWU.
Also on Harper and Schnaars’ September 16 play list will be Bob Marley’s “Stir It Up,” Steve Winwood’s “Back in the High Life,” Van Morrison’s “Moon Dance,” and jazz/pop standards including “Since I Fell for You” and “On Broadway.”
“Come join us,” Hamilton encourages. “It’s a great way to enjoy a long, relaxing lunch.”
