Ohio Wesleyan Student Explores ‘Artificial Intelligence in Modern Board Games’
Name: Aadarsha Gopala Reddy ’23
Hometown: Bengaluru, Karnataka, India
Majors: Computer Science and Data Analytics
Minor: Economics
OWU Connection Experience: Summer Science Research Program
Reddy is participating in Ohio Wesleyan’s annual 10-week Summer Science Research Program. He is completing a project titled “Artificial Intelligence in Modern Board Games” under the mentorship of Sean McCulloch, Ph.D., professor of Mathematics and Computer Science.
What I’m Studying
“Automated agents have been developed for card and board games for decades. My research involves creating a digital version of the card game ‘Lost Cities’ and implementing an automated agent to play against. My goal is to improve the agent to a level where it can do better than a human at the game.”
My Favorite Moments
“My favorite part of work is sitting outside of Dr. McCulloch's office, working on my code while listening to the nice music he’s got playing.”
Lessons Learned
“The research I am doing will help me in a course on artificial intelligence that I will be taking in the fall. This research is helping me put in practice most of what I have learned the last few years and build on that knowledge. I would even say it is preparing me for an intense senior year ahead.”
Why I Chose Ohio Wesleyan
“I chose to attend OWU because of the opportunities and educational value it offered that matched my interests in computer science and data analytics.”
My Plans After Graduation
“I do not have a solid plan yet, but I hope to directly attend grad school or work for a few years and then attend grad school. I can surely say that the Career Connection office is helping me work toward my career goals.”
