‘Obama is Getting Missile Defense Right in Europe,’ Ohio Wesleyan Professor Says

Ohio Wesleyan University professor Sean Kay, Ph.D., states in The Huffington Post that ballistic missile defense “was never a very good idea.”
Kay, author of “Global Security in the Twenty-First Century: The Quest for Power and the Search for Peace,” says “the science and technology are either non-existent or easily overwhelmed by decoys and other tactics aligned with incoming missiles while trying to ‘shoot a bullet with a bullet.’ ”
He also notes that ballistic missile defense “provides incentives for adversaries to build more missiles, does not address cruise missiles, and is useless against terrorist methods employing weapons of mass destruction.”
Kay supports President Obama’s shift from ballistic missile defense in Poland and the Czech Republic, replacing it with “a limited, but more effective, system that focuses on actual emerging threats and existing technology.”
