Exploring Conflict in Belfast

Six OWU students visit Belfast to compare Catholic-Protestant sectarianism in Northern Ireland with racism in the United States. As part of their OWU Connection experience, they meet with journalists, police, and others who have dealt with the issue firsthand.

Maddie Lancaster ’19 and Slater Sabo ’19 are among seven students selected nationwide for the Normandy Scholars Program sponsored by the National World War II Museum. The experience includes a trip to France to study the Normandy invasion.

Integrated Science for Teachers

Ohio Wesleyan adds Integrated Science for Teachers, a new education major to prepare secondary school educators to teach a broad range of science subjects. Graduates will be able to seek a license to teach science in grades 7 through 12.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Professor Juan Armando Rojas Joo, Ph.D., is appointed as OWU’s first-ever chief diversity officer, and the University holds its inaugural Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Summit. The Summit brings 160 students, faculty, and staff together to explore how to create a culture even more committed to supporting diversity and helping it thrive.

Open for Business

The Delaware Entrepreneurial Center at Ohio Wesleyan University will open officially Oct. 4 with an afternoon ribbon-cutting, remarks, and public tours. The celebration will continue that evening with the 2018 Robert L. Milligan Leaders in Business Lecture.

Directed by Ares Harper ’19, OWU’s Theatre Department will present “Cloud 9” Oct. 4-7. Harper is the first student to direct one of the University’s main productions since 1976, when then-student Bonnie Milne Gardner ’77 directed “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.”

Ohio Wesleyan’s newest students start their college journeys at Camp Oh-Wooo, a six-day experience to help them to get to know their fellow Bishops, explore who they are, discuss the college experience, and learn what it means to be part of the OWU family.

This fall, students attended one of four Camp Oh-Wooo experiences: challenge, city, service, or wilderness camp. Check out their adventures – and other campus happenings – as the 2018-2019 year gets off to a bright start.
