First Generation:

As part of OWU's DEI Action Plan, we have started a First-Generation Advisory Board which strives to foster and deepen institutional support for first-generation students at OWU. Through programming to raise awareness for first-gen student experiences, our group celebrates the unique perspectives and accomplishments of first-gens while building community among first-gen students. We know there are many alumni that were also first-generation college students and we hope to expand opportunities for connecting first-gen students and alumni together. Who is considered "first generation"? The most common definition is that anyone who is the first in their family to go to college is considered “first generation.” A similar definition is that “first generation” refers to anyone who is the first in their family to earn a bachelor’s degree.
