How does Humanities research matter? Humanities research can take many forms, traditionally ranging from scholarly articles to monographs. The ideas and methodologies of Humanities scholarship are also used to interrogate social issues, civic problems, and cultural questions. Public Humanities aims to create positive change. Prof. Merkel and her students will talk about their Wikipedia course project devoted to restoring and recognizing the contributions of 18th-century women and how such research can sharpen our thinking about 21st-century problems, such as maternal mortality.
