• Co-Curriculum: A parallel component of the academic curriculum that is in addition to the formal classroom.
  • Connect: Meaningfully synthesizes connections among experiences within or outside of the formal classroom (including life experiences and academic experiences such as internships, independent scholarly work, and travel abroad) to deepen understanding of fields of study and to broaden one's point of view.
  • Connection Course: This is an OWU course that includes a GenEd CX as part of the formal requirement
  • Connection Experience (CX): A significant and sustained experiential learning activity that allows students to connect their academic knowledge with experiences outside the traditional classroom. 
  • Curriculum: The totality of student experiences that occur in the educational process which help students achieve the instructional goals of the institution. 
  • Experiential Learning: A learning method and philosophy grounded in process. Students construct knowledge and develop skills by engaging in direct, personal, participatory experiences followed by analysis, reflection, and broader application. 
  • General Education Connection Experience (GenEd CX): A GenEd CX is a CX that satisfies the Ohio Wesleyan general education requirement.
  • The OWU Connection: Ohio Wesleyan's signature program of experiential learning embedded in a vibrant liberal arts curriculum. The spirit of the Connection is to encourage students to apply what they have learned in the classroom in creative and scholarly projects, the workplace, and the local and global community. 
  • Performance: A dynamic and sustained act that brings together knowing and doing. Performance makes learning observable.
  • Reflection: A meta-cognitive act of examining performance in order to explore its significance and consequences.
  • Self-Assessment: Describing, interpreting, and judging a performance based on stated or implied expectations followed by planning for further learning.  
  • Academic Service-Learning: A subcategory of experiential learning that integrates community service within an academic curriculum.
