The types of experiences and activities that fall under the umbrella of the OWU Connection are many and varied. All GenEd CXs, however, will serve to integrate foundational knowledge developed within and among academic disciplines with meaningful experiences outside the classroom.
All GenEd CXs must:
- Connect and extend content knowledge and skills gained in a disciplinary field of study.
- Require the transfer and application of skills in a new context.
- Involve significant and sustained activity and engagement outside of the traditional classroom.
Upon successful completion of a GenEd CX, OWU students will have met at least four (4) of the following six (6) objectives:
- Identify explicit links, connections, and/or associations between their CX and knowledge or theory from one or more courses.
- Apply theories and concepts from one or more academic disciplines to help solve practical problems.
- Apply their learning in different and potentially novel or unexpected contexts.
- Demonstrate awareness of their own cultural norms while developing an appreciation for the value of intercultural experience and the perspectives of others.
- Demonstrate skills related to planning, organization, and the solving of novel problems.
- Identify and explain how theoretical and/or content knowledge from more than one discipline is related to their CX.
