The OWU Brant Museum of Zoology plays a vital role in the life of the Ohio Wesleyan campus, providing impactful internships for students and supporting both faculty and student research.

Enhancing the Impact

To support OWU's natural history museum,  please consider making a tax-deductible donation today to the William D. Stull Endowed Fund at Ohio Wesleyan University.

Your gift will help to ensure the future of the museum and its ability to open a window into the natural world by supporting student-curatorial internships, providing student research funds, supporting the museum director's invaluable role, and helping the museum to maintain and enhance its displays and programs.

Elements supported by the Stull Endowment include:

William D. Stull Student-Curator Internships

These internships foster student experiences in museum curatorship. Students may gain experience in study skin preparation, taxonomic keying, display construction, record-keeping, specimen collection, and other aspects pertinent to museum curatorship.

William D. Stull Student Research Internships

These internships foster student research in the field of natural history. Preference is given to projects that involve museums or museum specimens, but any project with a strong emphasis on natural history in the field or laboratory may be supported.

Specimens collected as part of a Stull research internship are contributed to the OWU Brant Museum of Zoology. Interns gain valuable experience in research techniques including, but not limited to, experimental design, data collection, and scientific writing.

Both Stull internships are named in honor of former Museum Director William D. Stull, Ph.D., and his passion for supporting students and guiding biological research.

The Edward H. “Jed” Burtt Jr. Museum Curatorial Director

The curatorial director provides leadership to the museum and serves as a liaison with the public. The director also assists the Zoology Department in overseeing the growth and development of the museum and related programming.

In addition, the director supervises student-interns and research, oversees collection documentation, assists with the selection of Stull internship students, and works to promote the museum’s mission with a wide variety of constituents.

The position is named in memory of former Museum Director Edward “Jed” Burtt Jr., whose commitment to the museum enhanced its collections, encouraged students, and fostered an appreciation of the value of museum collections.
