The OWU Art Hop, highlighting Ohio Wesleyan’s departments of Fine Arts and Performing Arts and the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, will include the events listed below:
- 4:30-8 p.m. Dec. 3 – OWU art student exhibition, in the Werner Gallery inside Edgar Hall, 35 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. The show will feature pieces purchased from OWU students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their work. The pieces have been purchased with an endowment created by professor emeritus Marty Kalb. Admission is free, and facial coverings are required. For more information, contact (740) 368-3600.
- 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3 – “We Barely Talk: A Festival of One-Acts,” with theatre faculty member Brian Granger, producer/directing mentor, on the Main Stage in Chappelear Drama Center, 45 Rowland Ave., Delaware. - 7 p.m. Dec. 5 – OWU Music Collage Concert, featuring the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Park Avenue Jazz Ensemble, Choral Art Society, and Marching Bishops. - December 7, 2021 – “Deaf Republic” events
- 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. – “Deaf Republic” art exhibit opening, at the Richard M. Ross Art Museum, 60 S. Sandusky St., Delaware. Artist James Stewart’s paintings and ceramics interpret Ilya Kaminsky’s award-winning book of poetry “Deaf Republic,” in which a young deaf boy inspires a town’s resistance to military occupation. - 4:10 p.m. – “Deaf Republic” author reading, in the Benes Rooms of Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Ave., Delaware. In its review of poet and author Ilya Kaminsky’s “Deaf Republic,” Entertainment Weekly stated: “Kaminsky’s soulful new collection opens on an act of horrific violence before meditating on silence and deafness in times of political unrest. The language is exquisite; the ethical questions Kaminsky poses are provocative.” The reading is sponsored by the Ross Art Museum and the OWU Department of English.
