Music Theater Workshop is an integral component of the vocal performance curriculum at OWU. The course provides in-depth experiences to voice majors and theatre majors but is open to all students by audition. The class focuses on role preparation, acting technique, stage movement, and effective auditioning. Each year, this select ensemble performs programs of scenes from both classic and contemporary Broadway and off-Broadway shows.
In the summer of 2010 the director of the opera program, Jason Hiester was given a Theory-to-Practice Grant to take seven students to Salzburg, Austria. While there, the Music Theater Workshop students participated in workshops, lessons, masterclass, and attended the Salzburg Music Festival.
