About

Matthew Fox, originally from Cheyenne, Wyoming, is a music educator, bassoonist, and woodwind doubler based in Columbus, Ohio. He serves as the bassoon instructor for Ohio Wesleyan University. Matthew holds a Master of Music in Multiple Woodwinds Performance from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of Wyoming. Matthew has had the privilege of studying bassoon with Dr. Janis McKay and Kaori Uno-Jack.

Matthew currently plays bassoon in the Grove City Community Winds under the direction of renowned composer James Swearingen. Prior to relocating to Columbus, Ohio from Las Vegas, Nevada, Matthew served as the principal bassoon of The Desert Winds and 2nd bassoon in the Henderson Symphony Orchestra. Other groups he has performed with include the Nevada Pops Orchestra, the Nevada Chamber Orchestra, and the Sin City Opera to name a few. As a woodwind doubler, Matthew has performed with multiple theater companies including the Las Vegas Little Theater and Nevada Conservatory Theater having also played in the pit for multiple high school musical productions. As part of these groups, Matthew has been able to perform and share the stage with renowned composers, soloists, chamber ensembles, and conductors including the Boston Brass, Julie Giroux, Clint Holmes, P.D.Q. Bach, Col. John Bourgeois, Gerard Schwartz, James Swearingen and more.

Matthew has nearly a decade of experience teaching music ranging from Prekindergarten to the Collegiate level. In addition to teaching bassoon at Ohio Wesleyan University, he currently is the Music and Band Teacher at St. Brendan the Navigator Catholic School in Hilliard, Ohio where he teaches Kindergarten through 4th Grade General Music, 5th through 8th Grade Band, and 5th through 8th Grade Choir. Before moving to Ohio, he taught general music and band in the Diocese of Las Vegas and taught as a graduate student at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Matthew maintains an active private lessons studio in the Columbus area. Students that have taken private lessons with Matthew have received superior ratings at solo/ensemble festivals and been selected for honor ensembles including district honor band and all-state.
