Violin / Viola / Cello / Double Bass

1. Major scales in three octaves (two for double bass) with various bowings.
2. Two contrasting works demonstrating both technical control and lyrical playing; for example—solo Bach movements, etudes*, standard concerto or sonata movements, other short pieces.
   • *Etudes including but not limited to:
     • Violin—Dont, Kreutzer, Mazas, Rode
     • Viola—Campagnoli, Fuchs, Mazas, Rode
     • Cello—Duport, Klengel, Popper
     • Bass—Hrabe, Rabbath, Simandl, Storch

Guitar

Students may audition in either Classical or Jazz Guitar:

Classical Guitar

1. Play the following scales, two octaves ascending and descending: C major, C harmonic minor, C melodic minor, and C chromatic.
2. Play two voicings of the following chords in C and G: major, minor, major 7th, dominant 7th, minor 7th, half diminished 7th, and diminished 7th.
3. Perform a solo classical piece/arrangement (e.g., advanced to intermediate level—J.S. Bach, Villa Lobos, Fernando Sor; beginning—Carcassi Etude(s)) that best represents your skill level.

Jazz Guitar

1. Play the following scales, two octaves ascending and descending: C major, C harmonic minor, C melodic minor, and major modes (Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and Locrian).
2. Play two voicings of the following chords in C and G: major, minor, major 7th, dominant 7th, minor 7th, half diminished 7th, and diminished 7th.
3. Perform a solo arrangement from “Barry Galbraith Guitar Solos” or “Jazz Guitar Standards: Chord Melody Solos.” Play the melody and chords to a jazz standard (e.g., All The Things You Are, Donna Lee, On Green Dolphin Street).
4. Improvise over a Bb Blues.
