Health and Human Kinetics: Sports & Exercise Management

The Sports and Exercise Management major prepares you for a career that combines physical and sport activity with areas such as sport management, marketing, and retail fitness.

You will take 15 courses to complete this major. You must have a 2.67 in previous courses to enter this concentration. You will take courses in the Health and Human Kinetics and Economics departments, which will give you a foundation for the business of sport and exercise. You also must maintain certification of adult and pediatric CPR through graduation.

Major League Lacrosse

Kristie Prendergast ’15 worked in sponsorship and marketing for Major League Lacrosse’s Ohio Machine. She worked with the announcer during the Ohio Machine’s summer season, helped write scripts, and oversaw music for breaks in the action.

Fitness Center

OWU's fabulous new Simpson Querrey Fitness Center houses the HHK Department and serves as a classroom and lab space for HHK students.

23 Sports, 1 Team

OWU offers 23 varsity sports, and about one-third of all students participate on a varsity team.

Apprenticeships

In the Apprenticeship course, junior or senior Health and Human Kinetics majors and minors, under faculty supervision, locate a position in an area of concentration. This applied course must have a department faculty sponsor who is responsible for approving the apprenticeship proposal and final report of the student. Students are required to accumulate 120 hours during this experience.
