The Marty Kalb Purchase Endowment
“It’s not the honor that you take with you, but the heritage you leave behind.” – Branch Rickey, Class of 1904
The Marty Kalb Purchase Award is established in the name of and to honor Marty J. Kalb. Mr. Kalb taught painting, drawing, and modern art history in the fine arts department for 40 years from 1967 to 2007. Marty had a distinguished career as a teacher and scholar, who favorably impacted the lives of countless art majors, and who enjoyed an international reputation for his painting and drawing. In 2004, Marty was the recipient of the Daniel E. Anderson Campus and Community Conscience Award and in 2007 he received Ohio Wesleyan’s Bishop Herbert Welch Meritorious Teaching Award.
It is most fitting that the funds made available from the Marty Kalb Purchase Award endowment will be used to honor those students who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in their work.
This award will be used to purchase paintings and drawings for the Marty Kalb Student Collection and prepare the works for exhibition. All currently enrolled art majors who are in their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year and who show their work in the annual Spring All Student Juried Show or the Senior Exhibition will be considered for this award. For consideration of a purchase award, student art work must be nominated by a member of the fine arts faculty. Each purchase will be made by a majority vote of the fine arts faculty. All work purchased for inclusion in the collection will be displayed in the buildings of Ohio Wesleyan University at the discretion of the fine arts department. Earnings from the endowment will be utilized once the fund reaches $25,000.
