Department Distinctions

  • Transformative Academic Experience: Students will have the opportunity to work personally with expert faculty on their coursework, academic plans, and hands on "real-world" projects. These experiences could take the form of special research, travel, and independent study opportunities, or participation in one of the Department's faculty-guided student organizations tackling work like managing a six figure investment portfolio or consulting with area businesses about marketing strategy.
  • Fellowships and Research Opportunities: The Department of Economics and Business offers three intensive fellowship programs (Economic Management, Accounting, and Entrepreneurship) designed to help students discover their academic strengths and interests and launch their careers through unique networking and real-world learning opportunities. The Department also offers its students three grant programs created to financially support and academically guide students as they conduct research or pursue internships.
  • On-Campus Entrepreneurship Incubator: Economics and Business students have the opportunity to learn from and work with successful entrepreneurs who are enmeshed in the Columbus and Delaware business communities. Ohio Wesleyan's on-campus entrepreneurship incubator - the Delaware Entrepreneurial Center (DEC) is a partnership between the University, the City of Delaware, and Delaware County. The DEC regularly hosts speakers, networking events, and professional development opportunities. It also offers OWU student internships with resident businesses.
  • Career Connection: In addition to the University's Career Connection office, the Department of Economics and Business offers economics and business-specific career connections for its students. Our Career Catalyst has spent years cultivating relationships with businesses throughout the region and beyond, and works individually with students to help them find the right job and internship opportunities.
  • Building a Professional Network: Department of Economics and Business students will have constant on-campus opportunities to build an invaluable and diverse professional network through economics and business focused conferences, panels, lectures, job fairs, and firm specific recruiting events.
  • Outcomes: 96% of 2022 OWU grads reported being employed, attending grad school, volunteering, interning, or taking a gap year.
