Frequently Asked Questions about the 2024 Student Health Center management transition.

Beginning with the 2024-25 academic year, the Student Health Center at Ohio Wesleyan University will be managed by The Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center. Located on campus in Stuyvesant Hall, the OWU Student Health Center has been managed by OhioHealth since 2015. Below are some details about this transition:

When will the transition take place?

The transition to OSU Wexner Medical Center (OSUWMC) began on June 1, 2024, although the Student Health Center will not begin scheduling visits until students return in August.

What changes will be involved with the transition?

When the new academic year begins in August, the Student Health Center's hours of operation will expand to add Fridays. It will be open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Health Center will continue to be closed during breaks and over the summer.

Beginning this fall, the Student Health Center will bill insurance for visits. In recent years, OhioHealth has billed students only for resources provided outside the clinic, such as X-rays or certain laboratory tests.

How will insurance billing affect students?

Students may be affected differently, depending on their specific health insurance coverage. All OWU students are required to have comprehensive health insurance that includes access to healthcare providers in Central Ohio. OSUWMC participates in most provider networks and details can be found on its website. Students and parents can check their individual benefit plans for details about copays and deductibles.

What will happen to student medical records?

OhioHealth and OSUWMC both use the same electronic medical records system, although they use separate login credentials to access records held by each health system. Student records from the Student Health Center will continue to be maintained through this secure system, and students can continue to access their information through their MyChart account. You can access records held by the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center by clicking on "Edit organizations" on the top right of your MyChart login screen, and then following the prompts to add them to your health system login options.

Can I continue to schedule appointments with OhioHealth providers?

Students should always refer to their provider network to identify physicians, other medical providers, and hospitals that are in-network for them. Students working with specific OhioHealth providers are welcome to continue scheduling appointments with them. To continue to see an OhioHealth Behavioral Health provider, please call 614-566-4414 to schedule.

Will telehealth continue to be available?

OWU continues to offer 24/7/365 telehealth support through the Virtual Care Group, including throughout the Summer. To activate your account, visit https://portal.thevirtualcaregroup.com/tvcg/register and simply enter your last name, date of birth and OWU's zip code, 43015, to schedule a free telehealth visit with a US board-certified physician or a licensed counselor.

You can also schedule an e-visit with either OhioHealth or OSUWMC through your MyChart app by clicking on the menu icon on the top left of the screen.
