Bishop Elevate Internship FAQs for Supervisors

Internship Approval: Proposals will be evaluated based on compatibility with the program's goals and available funding. For AY 2024-2025, approximately 20 internship positions will be funded.

Where does funding come from? How are students paid?

The Bishop Elevate First-Generation Internship Program is funded by grant money and generous donations from alumni. The Bishop Elevate Internship Program makes it possible for offices and departments facing budget constraints to create valuable internship experiences for first-generation students. Our primary goal is to create pathways for first-generation students to access internship and research opportunities both within our community and beyond.

For AY 2024-2025, student interns will be paid $11.50/hour. Students are compensated through bi-weekly student-payroll disbursements. Supervisors will be responsible for approving student timesheets. Students are responsible for recording hours worked in their timesheet.

How many hours can an intern work?

Interns should work no more than 8 hours per week and cannot exceed 15 weeks of work. Students should work only when classes are in session. Students should not work during breaks or final exam weeks.

Can only first-generation students apply?

Yes, only first-generation students are eligible for Bishop Elevate First-Generation Internship opportunities. Ohio Wesleyan's first-generation student definition is: A student for whom no parent(s)/legal guardian(s) have completed a 4-year (Bachelor's) degree, regardless of other family members' level of education. First-Gen student status will be verified for all applicants by Bishop Elevate.

How will I be notified if a student(s) apply for my proposed internship position?

Once the student application opens, you will have access to a Google Drive folder with all applicant materials. You will be notified if there are no applicants for your position.

Bishop Elevate First-Generation Internships should not:

  • Overlap or replace existing work-study jobs in offices, programs, or departments

  • Employ first-generation students as teaching assistants

  • Require a student to work outside of traditional office / department hours
