With OWU’s emphasis on residential life, you’ll quickly feel at home here. Scheduled dorm and campus activities will bring you into frequent contact with fellow students, faculty, and staff—making connections that can last a lifetime.
First-year students receive a housing assignment and are randomly matched with roommates. Later, you’ll be assigned a priority number, based on class year, which allows you to choose your roommates and residence hall. You also can apply for other on-campus housing as a sophomore, junior, or senior. At OWU, students are expected to live on campus all four years.
Hayes Hall is OWU’s only single-gender residence hall, providing living space for 196 women. This residence hall is named in memory of Lucy Webb Hayes, the University’s first female student and later the wife of Rutherford B. Hayes, 19th President of the United States.
Named in honor of Ohio Wesleyan's 11th president, Elden T. Smith '32, Smith Hall is a five-story building that houses students in two wings (Smith East and Smith West) joined by a two-story community area. Smith West accommodates 159 students, and Smith East houses 239 students.
As OWU’s oldest residence hall, Stuyvesant Hall (commonly known as “Stuy”) embodies the tradition and history of the college. Constructed in 1930 with a generous gift from Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Stuyvesant, the hall underwent a 15-month renovation several years ago, reopening in August 2012.
Stuyvesant features three wings built around a courtyard, a bell tower, and a “smoking lounge” from the 1920’s (now a performance space known as the Milligan Hub, since all Ohio Wesleyan residence halls are smoke-free). Coed by suite, Stuy accommodates 243 men and women, sophomores through seniors.
Named in honor of Herbert Welch, who served as Ohio Wesleyan’s President from 1905-1916, Welch Hall is home to 194 returning and first-year students.
