December 7, 2023 Update
Recently, Amazon delivery people have begun to ask B&G staff for signatures instead of taking photographs of delivered items. In response, B&G staff are asking Amazon drivers to continue with the taking of photographs once they place the package on the table inside the loading dock. We are finding that Amazon driver behavior is inconsistent, with some drivers leaving packages not at the central receiving office, but leaning up against other buildings, such as University Hall, Slocum, etc.

Dear OWU colleagues,
Please note the following information regarding OWU receiving at the loading dock at the Buildings & Grounds Maintenance and Service building at 28 Hayes Street:
- Packages weighing less than approximately 50 pounds will continue to be delivered by an employee of ABM. If you are expecting a package weighing more than 50 pounds, or one of an irregular size that requires two people to carry, please call B&G at 740-368-3400 or email centralreceiving@owu.edu to discuss options and make arrangements for retrieving the package.
- If you plan to order or have ordered perishable items, please call B&G 740-368-3400 or email centralreceiving@owu.edu and let us know the date that the items are expected to arrive. Please monitor the tracking of that shipment that is provided by the shipper and provide B&G with updated information. A B&G employee will call you when they see the item on the dock.
- If you plan to order a very large item, such as something that would be delivered on a pallet, we do not at this time have a box-truck to deliver those items to you from the dock. Please contact us in advance of placing the order by calling 740-368-3400 or emailing centralreceiving@owu.edu, and we will assist in thinking through solutions for delivery of those types of items.
- When placing orders, be sure that your name and the department name is on the "ship to" information. We have received many packages that do not have names and/or departments on the labels, so we are unable to deliver them. If you have ordered a package and have not received it, this could be the reason. We have recently become aware that Amazon orders through BishopBuy may limit the name field. We will be working with the BishopBuy system to investigate potential solutions to that problem. In the meantime, please keep an eye on the delivery date for your order. For faster receipt, feel free to visit the receiving area (see below) after being notified by the shipper/Amazon that your item has been delivered.
- Employees are welcome to visit the receiving area at the B&G building at 28 Hayes Street* and retrieve their packages, especially if the shipper states that your items have been delivered. Central receiving hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. on days the university is open.
- As a reminder, it is not appropriate to have personally-purchased items delivered to the campus loading dock. The campus loading dock is for university-purchased items only.
We will be working to streamline the process for OWU's shipping and receiving, as well as investigating possible staffing solutions, with the President's Cabinet. Until that work is completed, we ask for your patience and understanding.
