Biography
Dr. Melvin L. Vulgamore is Dean of Academic Affairs and Professor of Religion at Ohio Wesleyan University.
Dr. Vulgamore is an honor graduate of Ohio Wesleyan and earned his B.D. from Harvard University, and the Ph.D. from Boston University. He joined the Ohio Wesleyan faculty in 1962.
During the summer of 1967, he was in England for post-doctoral study at Oxford University, and in 1969 he spent his sabbatical leave studying at Heidelberg University, Germany. For the academic year of 1971-72, he was visiting professor on the faculty of the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.
Several of his educational projects have been supported by grants from the Great Lakes Colleges Association and the Carnegie Foundation, and he was the recipient of an OWU Faculty Fellowship.
Dr. Vulgamore has received the Shankland Award for excellence in teaching at Ohio Wesleyan. He is a past-president of the Ohio Academy of Religion.
Dr. Vulgamore is a member of the American Academy of Religion, and the American Society of Church History. He is listed in Who’s Who in the Midwest, Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who in the Methodist Church, and the Directory of American Scholars.
