The Sagan Academic Resource Center (ARC) staff has worked intentionally in recent years to develop an academic success model that provides integrated and targeted support to an increasing number of students who rely on multiple resources for their success. To meet the needs of current and future OWU students, the Sagan ARC has upgraded services, introduced new resources, and developed academic success programs, such as
- Guided Tutorial in Writing – a writing resource for students who need targeted and additional support during the semester to improve their writing skills and be successful in one or more courses.
- Academic Success & Achievement Pathways (ASAP) – an academic skill-building course for students who faced academic challenges in their most recent semester at OWU.
- Bishop ACCESS – a fee-based academic coaching program for students with executive function challenges who would like an additional level of support to help them navigate university life, enhance study skills, and complete work that requires planning, goal-setting, and time management.
The Sagan ARC staff works collaboratively to help students reach their academic goals by empowering them with the skills they need to be independent and life-long learners—both inside and outside the classroom.
The Academic Skills Center assists students in the areas of time management, note-taking, study and test-taking skills, and stress management. For an additional level of academic and coaching support, students may choose to participate in Bishop ACCESS—a fee-based program for students with disabilities who wish to enhance executive functioning skills.
The Accessibility Services Office promotes access and opportunities for students with disabilities through collaboration with the other Centers in the Sagan Academic Resource Center, including the Office of Academic Advising, and collaborates across campus with Counseling Center, the Residential Life Office, the Wellness Center, and the faculty.
Departmental Peer Tutoring is available for a variety of subjects, including Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, and Spanish. Click the link above to view current offerings.
The Quantitative Skills Center provides tutoring and assistance to both individuals and groups in any quantitative area of their studies, as well as GRE preparation. The Q-Center is staffed by professional tutors and peer tutors with advanced mathematics experience.
The Writing Center provides one-on-one tutoring and instruction by professional writing consultants, peer tutors, and student interns. Besides working with students on writing skills and assignments across the curriculum, the staff works with students on resumes, cover letters, and personal statements for graduate and professional schools.
