Ohio Wesleyan's Safe Ride Program provides free shuttle rides on a fixed circulator route that reaches each pre-set stop approximately every 30 minutes. Track the locations of the shuttles using the Safe Ride Tracker function of the CampusShield app.
Safe Ride runs only when classes are in session, and service times may vary daily. The shuttle service begins no earlier than 8 p.m. and runs no later than Midnight. There is no Safe Ride service if Delaware County is under a Level 1, 2 or 3 winter weather advisory.
The Safe Ride Route (8 p.m. - Midnight) consists of 11 stops, including Sanborn and Haycock halls.
Note: The above link only shows the individual stops on the route. If you want more detail on the directionality of the route, use the Route Map (PDF).
The Safe Ride Program is provided by the OWU Department of Public Safety to transport members of the campus community and their guests to and from pre-set locations, including remote parking lots and residential and academic buildings.
Please do not call Public Safety to schedule rides or determine how soon the van will reach a particular stop. This is a circulator service that travels a fixed path; the program is unable to provide rides upon request. When in service, the student-driven van should arrive at each scheduled stop at least once every 30 minutes.
The current location of the Safe Ride van is accessible in real-time by using the Safe Ride Tracker function of the CampusShield (Apple, Android) application.
To use the tracker, open the CampusShield App and select the Safe Ride Tracker icon from the home screen. Zoom in and out as needed to see both the location of the Safe Ride shuttle (during service hours only) and your location to help you know when and where to catch a ride. The Safe Ride Route can be found by selecting the calendar icon at the top right of the Safe Ride Tracker app.
If you are an Ohio Wesleyan student with a valid driver's license and a good driving record, you are invited to apply to become a Safe Ride driver. The position pays minimum wage, and the van service operates only when classes are in session. All shifts are staffed by two student-drivers.
Public Safety is interested in your feedback about the Safe Ride Program as we seek to determine its value to the OWU community and whether the van is stopping at the right destinations.
To share feedback, please email Christopher Mickens, Assistant Director, at crmickens@owu.edu.
